Recently, while looking for artwork, I came across the artist – Tanya Jacobsz. The art scene in South Africa has become quite dull, with only a few exceptions that come every so often, but the work of Tanya has brought a new wind to me.
The imaginative scenery of her collection, its own world that it creates, delivers a fresh breeze that invokes your feelings. This has brought me to compose a review for two of her creations.
An Enchanting Evening Alley

Soft and gentle, this work of art portrays a road in a park, surrounded by an array of colours. Upon first glance, the viewer is greeted by the focus, a row of lanterns emitting a soft, shimmering glow in the twilight setting. Surrounding the lanterns are a multitude of shrubbery and other various vegetation. The plants feature a pleasant colour contrast between the green leaves and the red flowers growing out of them. The trees beside the road display autumn-like colours that further emit a contrast between the rest of the painting.
The presence of autumn is evident, as the scene makes clear. The road is seen being covered by aged leaves that have left the branches of the trees. The contrast of the trees only further accentuates the idea of a gentle and relaxing, golden autumn.
Furthermore, the combination of all the elements put together, entices a rather unique feeling.
The road continuing into the misty distance, the twilight ambience that fills the air, the vegetation and the faint glow of the lanterns – all work to deliver an enchanting, mystical-type atmosphere.
The painting expertly brings out your emotion and manifests a dream-like feeling, making you feel as though you were walking in the alley yourself, following the glow of the lanterns, down the enchanting alley.
Pond with Lilies
The Pond with Lilies, derived from the work of nature, contains many bright and soft colours. This artwork, inspired and reminiscent of Claud Monet’s famous artwork “Water Lilies”, depicts a beautiful pond situated in Monet’s Estate, Giverny. A place where thousands of tourists journey to cherish the value that Monet’s Estate holds.
The main focus, the pond, immediately attracts the eyes to its multiple features. Of which you will first notice, the multitude of water lilies placed on top of the water, bright pink flowers which softly glide throughout the water surface. The gentle reflection of the background and sky can be seen in the water, which helps bring attention to the origin of the reflections.
The foreground, filled with numerous different fauna, contains many elements in regard to contrast. The succulent colours of the plants indicate their good nourishment and access to the bounty of the water. The dark green colours of the vegetation contrast well with their flowers, the green with the white, blue and red.
In the background, where the pond extends, a small forest of trees can be seen, luscious and green. Accompanying the trees is a small bridge with people, admiring the view they have over the magnificent nature.

The sky contains vibrant clouds that contrast with the sky’s blue. Even though the sun is not seen, it cannot be denied that its power is in full effect, bringing vibrancy and light to all beneath it. All of the aspects that this painting contains, crafts a pleasant atmosphere. The colourful and luscious fauna with the bright sky all give you the impression of a relaxing summer day.
Truly, with all of these elements in account, the thoughts that you get remind you of the quality of work. To be able to amplify your emotions and make you desire to go and appreciate nature for yourself. To go to this pond, on the bright summer day and enjoy the soft, gentle scenery.
